Fall Vacation Ideas

The fall typically means kids are starting back to school, the weather is beginning to cool down and people are starting to think about the upcoming holidays. Given all this, vacation ideas can take a back seat until winter time. But instead of waiting until Thanksgiving, Christmas, spring break or the summer for your vacation -- when costs are generally higher -- plan your vacation getaway for the fall. There are many things you can do with your significant other or the whole family.
  1. Golf Vacations

    • Consider taking a golf vacation. Not only do golf prices come down in the fall, the weather is also much more friendly. For a luxury trip, plan a golf vacation in Hawaii when pricing is a little more pocket-friendly. You'll enjoy the amazing golf courses, as well as the stunning view from the courses. If Hawaii isn't in the cards for you, take a trip to Pebble Beach, California, and play a round at Pebble Beach Golf Links.

    Wine Vacations

    • If you're looking for a romantic getaway, stay at a vineyard and enjoy alone time and wine tasting. For warmer weather, travel to Napa Valley. But if you want to experience fall colors, try Grand Traverse Bay in Michigan, where you can also visit numerous wineries and enjoy Lake Michigan. You can even set up a wine tour in Napa Valley or Grand Traverse Bay.

    Family Vacation

    • To include the children in your trip, take them to Disney World or Disney Land. September through November tend to be the slow months, so you can get a great deal then. If the price is still a little high, consider a few alternatives. Cedar Point in Sandusky, Ohio, has some of the world's tallest and fastest roller coasters. Or you can take your nature-loving kids to the Grand Canyon in Arizona, Yellowstone National Park in Wyoming (it also extends into Montana and Idaho), Mammoth Cave in Kentucky, or the Santa Monica Mountain Conservancy in California.

    Celestial Vacations

    • Most people associate the Northern Lights with winter time, but they can be seen in the fall as well. For a luxury trip, head to Alaska or northern Canada to see sky light up. There are even Northern Light tours in the Yukon that your whole family will like. If you'd love to see the lights but don't want to spend as much money, visit northern North Dakota or the Upper Peninsula in Michigan during autumn.
