If you're seeking a countryside getaway location for yourself and your pet, the town of Calistoga, California is one that features a few pet-friendly accommodations. Calistoga is part of Northern California's wine country, and is located less than 30 minutes from the valley's vineyards and wineries. The town also offers open field areas and public parks, where your four-legged friends have plenty of room to roam and play.

    • Located within walking distance to downtown Calistoga, Washington Street Lodging offers secluded cottage accommodations surrounded by acres of private land and oak trees. These pet-friendly cottages each have their own entrance, ensuring that you and your pet won't disturb any of the other guests when coming and going. Washington Street Lodging overlooks the Napa River and provides an outdoor courtyard and play area for your pets.

      Pets of all sizes are welcome and there is a non-refundable fee of $25 per pet, per visit. Washington Street Lodging also provides pet-related amenities like food and water bowls, furniture coverings, pet food and biscuits if guests should need them. As of January 2011, winter stay rates (January through March) are $150 for two nights. Summer rates are $155 per night on weekends, and $105 nightly Monday through Thursday.

    The Bear Flag Inn

    • Situated on three and a half private acres, The Bear Flag Inn is a pet-friendly hotel that features its own small vineyard, gardens, hammocks, heated outdoor swimming pool and Jacuzzi. Guests can also enjoy an on-site recreation room featuring a treadmill, health rider, pool table, piano and poker table. Complimentary breakfast is served daily, as are appetizers and wine in the afternoon.

      Guests staying at The Bear Flag Inn may bring one dog of any size at no additional charge. Guests are responsible for bringing all pet amenities including tools to clean up after them. Accommodations offered include four private guestrooms and one guest cottage, which is separate from the main bed and breakfast. All guest accommodations feature private baths which feature claw-foot bathtubs, antique furnishings like armoires, fresh flowers, bathrobes and complimentary bottled water and wine.

    Hillcrest Country Inn

    • Located just above Napa Valley's Chateau Montelena Winery, the Hillcrest Country Inn is a pet-friendly bed and breakfast, offering phenomenal views of this popular wine-tasting region. The Hillcrest Country Inn was initially built in the 1950s, and features early California antiques and fireplaces in all rooms. Some of the guestrooms also have private balconies, baths and Jacuzzi tubs for two.

      Pets must be approved prior to your stay. There is a fee of $10 per night, per pet and if available, inn owners will dog sit or walk your dog at no extra charge. The Hillcrest Country Inn requires a two-night stay minimum for weekends. Rates as of January 2011 start at $135 nightly for double occupancy, which includes daily breakfast.

      Nearby activities and attractions include valley-view helicopter rides, horseback riding, hot-air balloon and glider rides, golfing, tennis, and California's Petrified Forest. The Hillcrest Country Inn is only 2 miles from downtown Calistoga where guests will also find a number of boutiques and shops, restaurants and wine tasting venues.
