Tours in Upstate New York

The Empire State is more than just New York City. Upstate New York offers wineries, two different types of mountain ranges--the Adirondacks and the Catskills, and several mid-size cities such as Albany, Rochester and Buffalo. Lake Placid, in the Adirondack Mountains, has twice hosted the Winter Olympics--in 1932 and 1980. Tours in upstate New York provide an opportunity to experience New York's diverse natural and cultural heritage.
  1. Finger Lakes Wine Tours

    • The Fingerlakes region of upstate New York offer many different wineries throughout this rolling pastoral landscape. The Seneca, Keuka, or Cayuga Wine Trails take you to wineries along the way, where you can participate in sampling and tastings. • In the northern portions of upstate New York is the Adirondack park. Established in 1892, the Adirondack park's motto is "Forever Wild." Tours designed to take you into the wilderness of this boreal pine forest are available throughout the region. If you wish to really get off the beaten path and into remote sections of the park, consider a day hike tour with Packbasket Adventures out of the hamlet of Wanakena. The guides at Packbasket take you and yours out for half-day or full-day hiking tours on the trails around Wanakena and Cranberry Lake.

    Hudson River Tours

Cruises on the boat the Rip Van Winkle provide guides who give narrations on the history of the area. Tours depart from Kingston, New York, and are conducted in spring, summer and fall.
