Taste of France Tours

A Taste of France Tours are designed for people who want to experience and learn about French cuisine while combining a holiday in the South of France. The company has created a number of tours ranging from a weekend to eight days where visitors are taken to some of the most beautiful towns in France, eat at Michelin-starred restaurants (European classification for the best restaurants), learn about France and its culture and stay in some of its historic chateaus.
  1. Origins

    • The company is operated by founders Dominique and Christophe Cachat who are a French-American couple. They set up the company to share their love and knowledge of French food and wine with other enthusiasts. The couple host the different tours, and while they are both fluent in English and French, the tours are conducted in English.

    Tour Types

    • There are two adventures to choose from. The "Grape Harvest Adventure" consists of eight days based in Provence, where guests experience what it is like to work as a winemaker, visit a local cheese producer, have private wine tastings and check out some local food at a Michelin-starred restaurant.

The second tour, "Food and Wine Adventure," sees guests based in the historic town of Uzes. Here they visit the local market, check out Roman ruins, do a bit of wine tasting and of course visit some of the region's typical cafes and restaurants. There is also the choice to customize your own tour if these two offers don't appeal.

    Tourists

    • The tours are not targeted at a particular group, and the company says it welcomes all kinds of participants, from solo travelers to couples, small groups and families. Age is not much of an issue either, with the tours being suitable for anyone from ages 20 to 70. The emphasis is on having small groups made up of six people. Private tours are required for families wishing to come with children under the age of 18.

    Accommodation/Transportation

    • Accommodation on the tours includes a typical French-style historical chateau and bed and breakfasts that have a high standard of comfort. The transportation is also very comfortable, according to the company's website, with minivans that are professionally chauffeured and are air-conditioned.

    Food

    • Visitors can expect typical French food during the tour. Gourmet picnics, visits to wineries, lunches at traditional cafes and dinners at Michelin-starred restaurants make up the culinary side of the tours. Most of the restaurants visited give you a choice of two appetizers and two entrees of usually fish or meat, followed up by cheese and dessert.

    Considerations

    • The tours are not designed to be strenuous but do include long walks, cobblestoned streets and the odd stairway or two. The hotels used by the tour company do not have elevators, but none are more than three levels in height. While on the tour you can expect to take part in wine-tasting, chocolate-making, walking tours, cooking classes and a bit or rest and relaxation by the pool.
