Skiing and Towing in Texas: What You Need to Know

Texas has no ski resorts. Natural snowfall is rare and insufficient for skiing—occasional light snow in Panhandle (Amarillo), North Texas (DFW), or Hill Country melts quickly. No commercial ski operations exist.

Snow Towing / Tubing

On rare snow days, informal sledding/tubing occurs on hills (e.g., Lubbock, Amarillo). No regulated "towing" facilities. Liability and safety are entirely personal responsibility.

Water Skiing / Towing (Likely Intent)

If "towing" refers to water skiing, wakeboarding, or tubing behind boats on Texas lakes:

  • No season restrictions—year-round where water temps allow.
  • Texas Parks & Wildlife rules: Observer required (or mirror); USCG-approved life jackets; no skiing 1/2 hr after sunset to 1/2 hr before sunrise; 50-ft distance from swimmers, docks, shore.
  • Lake-specific rules: Some HOAs, river authorities, or municipalities impose additional limits (no-wake zones, horsepower caps, time restrictions).

Check tpwd.texas.gov and local lake authority for current regulations.
