Where do alpine glaciers form?

Alpine glaciers form in mountainous regions where there is a surplus of snow accumulation in an icefield or cirque during the winter season. These environments experience cold temperatures along with substantial precipitation, which supports the formation and persistence of glaciers. The ice builds up over multiple years and, under its weight, begins to flow slowly downslope as a glacier.
