Which country owns Mount Everest?

Mount Everest is located on the border between Nepal and China (Tibet). The summit of Mount Everest is exactly on the border between the two countries. The south side of the mountain is in Nepal, while the north side is in China.

Both Nepal and China claim sovereignty over Mount Everest. Nepal claims the entire mountain, while China claims the summit and the north face of the mountain. The two countries have agreed to disagree on the issue, and both sides issue permits for climbers to ascend Mount Everest from their respective sides.
