Ellis Island Is a Place, Not a Duration—It's in Upper New York Bay

Ellis Island doesn't take "days to get to"—it's a 27.5-acre island in Upper New York Bay, between New Jersey and New York City. It served as the U.S.'s busiest immigrant inspection station (1892–1954), processing 12 million people.

Today, it's part of the Statue of Liberty National Monument. Visitors reach it by ferry from Battery Park (NYC) or Liberty State Park (NJ)—a 15–20 minute ride. The trip is measured in minutes, not days.

The museum in the restored Main Building tells the immigration story. Allow 2–4 hours for a meaningful visit.
