How to Register With the Australian Embassy

The Australian government recommends that Australian citizens who are planning to travel internationally register with the Embassy before they leave the country. Registering with the Embassy will help the Australian government locate you and your travel companions in the event of a natural disaster, terror attack, or other emergency.

      Locate an Embassy location or navigate to the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade website. The website contains an online registration tool as well as travel advisories and facts that are relevant to international travelers. Registration forms can also be obtained by contacting or visiting a domestic Embassy location (see Resources).

      Complete the Embassy registration form. You will need to provide information regarding your citizenship status, the anticipated length of your trip and whether you will be traveling with your family. Enter your personal information such as your name, date of birth, passport number, address and additional contact information. You will also be asked to provide details about your trip such as the specific locations you intend visit and the anticipated length of each trip. If you have the address of the hotel or other location that you will be staying at while on your trip, provide that information as well. Complete the form by entering the name and contact information for a person who should be contacted in the event of an emergency.

      Print or photocopy the completed form for your records. Provide a copy to additional family members, business associates or acquaintances so that they may also locate you in the event of an emergency. Submit your registration form online, in person or through the mail (see Resources).
