How to Register With the Canadian Consulate

The government of Canada recommends that all Canadians planning to travel or live abroad register with Foreign Affairs and International Trade Canada before departure. Registration is free and allows the Canadian consulate or embassy in your destination country to maintain contact with you in case of an emergency, such as a natural disaster or civil unrest. Registration also allows the Canadian government to contact your relatives in Canada in a timely manner should anything happen to you while you are out of the country.
