How to Register at the American Embassy in Peru

The U.S. Department of State recommends that all American citizens who travel overseas register their trip with a U.S. Embassy. In the event of an emergency, the Department of State will be able to determine the whereabouts and number of American citizens. You can register your trip with the embassy before you travel or after you arrive in Peru. If you need medical, legal or financial assistance while you are in Peru, the embassy will be able to provide you with the names of local physicians, lawyers and even lend you money if you are in a financial bind.

      Go to the Travel Registration website of the Department of State. The link is available in Resources.

      Create an account. You will need to create a unique user ID and password.

      Enter basic information about yourself and the contact information for a person you want notified in case you have an emergency while in Peru.

      Click "Add Trip" or "Add Overseas Residence." Enter as much information as possible about your trip and where you are staying in Peru.

      Watch for the confirmation email that you are officially registered with the U.S. Embassy in Peru.
