How did the city of Riverside get its name?

Riverside got its name from its location along the Santa Ana River. The city was originally called "Jurupa" by the Native American inhabitants of the area. In 1870, the city was renamed "Riverside" by a group of settlers from the Midwest who were impressed by the beauty of the river and the surrounding area.
