Show Me Wine Country: Augusta

Augusta, located in western Missouri, is not typically associated with wine production. The Show Me State’s wine country is predominantly situated in central and eastern regions, where climatic conditions are more conducive to viticulture. While Augusta doesn’t boast vineyards or notable wine production, if you're interested in exploring wine country destinations in Missouri, here are three suggestions:

Hermann:

- Situated along the Missouri River, Hermann is often regarded as the heart of Missouri wine country.

- Home to more than a dozen wineries, visitors can indulge in wine tastings at historic wineries such as Stone Hill Winery and Hermannhof Winery.

- The annual Hermann Wine & Jazz Festival celebrates both Missouri wines and jazz music and attracts guests from across the region.

Ste. Genevieve:

- Another prominent wine-producing region is Ste. Genevieve, also along the Missouri River.

- Ste. Genevieve boasts picturesque historic neighborhoods where several wineries reside, including Crown Valley Winery and Chaumette Vineyards & Winery.

- The historic town offers a blend of culture, history, and charming architecture alongside fine Missouri wines.

Defiance:

- This town may not have as many notable wineries as Hermann or Ste. Genevieve, but nearby vineyards contribute to its relevance in wine country exploration.

- Slightly to the south is Jowler Creek Vineyard & Winery, crafting quality wines and offering immersive winery experiences.

- Augusta is approximately two hours by car from this Defiance wine production area.

While you won’t find significant wine establishments or attractions in Augusta itself, a road trip to the heart of Missouri wine country could be a worthwhile adventure if you plan a vacation and wine tasting exploration with these other destinations in mind.
