When was catalonia founded?

Catalonia has not been founded; it has a long history dating back to the 8th century BCE when it was first settled by the Iberians. The region has been continuously inhabited since then by various groups, including the Phoenicians, Greeks, Romans, Visigoths, and Muslims. In the 10th century CE, Catalonia was united under the County of Barcelona and it became an independent political entity in the 12th century. In 1479, Catalonia was united with the Kingdom of Aragon and became part of the Spanish monarchy.
