During the Vietnam War, U.S. forces also conducted major bombing campaigns in Cambodia and Laos. The purpose of these operations was to disrupt North Vietnamese supply routes and sanctuaries, but the civilian populations of both countries suffered greatly as a result.
In Laos, the U.S. dropped more than two million tons of bombs between 1964 and 1973, making it the most heavily bombed country in history. The bombing destroyed villages, hospitals, schools, and temples, and killed an estimated 50,000 people.
In Cambodia, the U.S. dropped more than half a million tons of bombs between 1969 and 1975. The bombing caused widespread damage to the country's infrastructure and environment, and killed an estimated 100,000 people.
