Mali's Rulers: The Mansas

The kings of the Mali Empire (13th–17th centuries) bore the title Mansa (from Manding for "emperor"). They claimed descent from Bilal ibn Rabah, Islam's first muezzin. Notable mansas include Sundiata Keita (founder), Mansa Musa (famed for wealth), and Mansa Suleiman.
