How to Renew a Jamaican Passport in New York

If you live in New York City, getting your Jamaican passport is as simple as a visit to the Jamaican general consulate or getting on the Internet. Plan for a delay in processing though. All Jamaican passports are produced in the Passport Office in Kingston, Jamaica. Since all passport applications are sent there for processing, passport applications can take between four and six weeks.

      Obtain the application form. The form can be downloaded from the website of the Jamaican consulate, or obtained by visiting the consulate in New York City, located at 767 Third Ave, 2nd Floor. The passport office is open from 9 a.m. to noon ET, Monday through Friday, except Jamaican and U.S. holidays.

      Fill in the application form. Married couples must complete section B.

      Enter the number and date of issue of the citizenship document in section C.

      Fill in section E, tick the appropriate box and sign on the signature line.

      Fill in section F with emergency contact information. Fill in the names and information about the relationship.

      Get section G signed. Ask the consular officer to sign section G and one of the photographs. The Jamaican honorary consul or a notary public can also sign these.

      Pay the application fee. As of 2010, this fee was $110.00.

      Check on the status of your application. Review the website of the general consulate for information on the status. Go to the consulate to pick up the passport when the website status of ready on the website.
