English Speakers in Sudan: ~10% Mostly Urban and Educated

Per CIA World Factbook, Arabic and English are official languages of Sudan. However, Arabic dominates nationally. ~10% of the population speaks English, concentrated in:

• Urban centers (Khartoum, Port Sudan).
• Educated elites, professionals, former Anglophone school graduates.
• Southern regions (pre-2011 South Sudan) had higher English use due to missionary schools.

Rural and northern areas are overwhelmingly Arabic-speaking. English remains vital for international business, diplomacy, and higher education.
