Government Structure of The Gambia

The Gambia is a unitary democratic presidential republic. The president serves as both head of state and head of government, directly elected for a five-year term (eligible for one re-election). The National Assembly has 53 elected members serving five-year terms. A multi-party system operates under universal suffrage.
