Who is the Portuguese King that renamed southern tip of Africa Cape Good Hope?

The Portuguese king who renamed the southern tip of Africa Cape Good Hope was King John II. He did so in 1488, after the Portuguese explorer Bartolomeu Dias had rounded the cape and sailed into the Indian Ocean. Dias had originally named the cape Cabo das Tormentas (Cape of Storms), but King John renamed it Cabo da Boa Esperança (Cape of Good Hope) to encourage his sailors to continue exploring the seas to the east.
