There is no historical or archaeological evidence placing Jesus' birth in Africa. The New Testament and early Christian tradition locate his birth in Bethlehem, Judea (modern-day West Bank), then part of the Roman Empire. Bethlehem is in the Levant, southwestern Asia. African Christianity developed later, notably in Egypt and Ethiopia.
