As of 2023, the Democratic Republic of the Congo's gross domestic product (GDP) stands at approximately 55.4 billion U.S. dollars. While this reflects the country's vast natural resource base (cobalt, copper, diamonds, oil, timber), GDP per capita remains among the world's lowest (~$600) due to a population nearing 100 million.
The economy is heavily dependent on mining exports, making it vulnerable to commodity price swings. Efforts to diversify into agriculture, manufacturing, and services are ongoing but hindered by infrastructure gaps, governance challenges, and conflict in the east. The IMF and World Bank support reform programs aimed at improving revenue management and business climate.
