How where the new African nations created?

European Decolonization:

After World War II, European imperial powers began to lose control of their colonies in Africa. This was due to a combination of factors, including:

- Rising nationalism in Africa

- The economic cost of maintaining colonies

- Pressure from the United Nations and international community

- Changing global geopolitical dynamics

As European powers withdrew, they often left behind newly independent African nations with weak institutions and arbitrary boundaries drawn during the colonial era.

Pan-Africanism and Self-Determination:

Pan-Africanism, a movement that advocated for political unity among African nations and people of African descent, played a significant role in inspiring independence movements across the continent.

Leaders like Kwame Nkrumah of Ghana and Julius Nyerere of Tanzania became prominent figures in the struggle for self-determination and the establishment of sovereign African nations.

Negotiated Independence:

Many African nations gained independence through negotiated agreements with their former colonial powers. This often involved a transition period before full sovereignty was achieved.

Armed Struggle and Resistance:

In some cases, African nations achieved independence through armed struggle and resistance against colonial rule. Notable examples include the Algerian war of independence against France, the Mau Mau uprising in Kenya against British rule, and the Angolan and Mozambican liberation wars.

Organization of African Unity (OAU):

In 1963, the Organization of African Unity (OAU) was formed to promote unity, solidarity, and cooperation among African nations. One of its goals was to support the decolonization process and ensure the territorial integrity of African nations.

Legacy of Colonial Borders:

Many African nations inherited borders that were drawn by European colonial powers without much consideration for ethnic, cultural, or geographical realities on the ground. This has often led to disputes, conflicts, and challenges to national unity.
