Where are the Kenyan highlands?

The Kenyan Highlands are located in the central and western parts of Kenya, stretching from the southern border with Tanzania to the northern shores of Lake Turkana. They are part of the larger East African Highlands, a region of elevated terrain that runs through several countries in eastern Africa.

The Kenyan Highlands encompass several mountain ranges, including the Aberdare Range, the Cherangani Hills, the Mau Escarpment, and the Nyambene Range. These mountain ranges rise to altitudes of over 3,000 meters (9,800 feet) above sea level, with Mount Kenya being the highest peak at 5,199 meters (17,057 feet).

The Kenyan Highlands are characterized by a cool and temperate climate, with average temperatures ranging from 10 to 25 degrees Celsius (50 to 77 degrees Fahrenheit). The region receives abundant rainfall, with some areas experiencing up to 2,500 millimeters (98 inches) of rainfall annually.

Due to their favorable climate and fertile soils, the Kenyan Highlands are densely populated and are home to various agricultural activities. The region is known for its production of tea, coffee, wheat, maize, and dairy products. The highlands are also home to a diverse range of wildlife, including elephants, lions, buffaloes, giraffes, zebras, and antelopes.
