What is the attitude toward religion in Madagascar?
Madagascar is a highly religious country. The majority of the population, around 85%, follows Christianity, with the largest denominations being Roman Catholicism and Protestantism. Traditional African beliefs, known as "Fomba Gasy," are also widely practiced, even among Christians. There is also a small Muslim minority, concentrated mainly in the north-western coast. Although religious freedom is legally protected, there have been occasional religious tensions between adherents of these main belief systems. Overall, religion tends to have a significant influence on both cultural and national identities, as well as shaping social norms and traditions in the communities and societies of Madagascar.
