Why did the Nubia and Egypt become rivals?

Nubia and Egypt did not become rivals; rather, they had several periods of peace and cooperation throughout their history. Nubia and Egypt traded frequently and the Nubians often served as Egyptian soldiers and mercenaries. Additionally, many Nubian pharaohs ruled during Egypt's 25th Dynasty and left their mark on Egyptian art and culture.
