How did African Americans respond to invasion in Ethiopia?
African Americans responded to the Italian invasion of Ethiopia in a variety of ways. Some, such as Marcus Garvey, believed that Ethiopians should take the opportunity to assert their independence and sovereignty. Others, such as Haile Selassie, appealed to world leaders for aid and assistance in repelling the invasion. Regardless of their individual opinions, there was a notable outpouring of protest and agitation against the invasion both inside the United States and abroad. African Americans organized protest marches, demonstrations, and rallies on various college campuses to draw attention to the conflict and encourage international support for Ethiopia. Additionally, numerous leaders wrote letters, published articles, and gave speeches, calling for assistance.
