How did San Diego gets its name?

The name “San Diego” comes from the Roman Catholic Saint Didacus of Alcalá, whose feast day is November 12. When Spanish explorers arrived in San Diego Bay on November 12, 1602, they named the region “San Diego” in honor of the saint.
