Why did the Portuguese import enslaved African to Brazil?

Economic reasons:

- Sugarcane plantations in Brazil, which were labor-intensive, necessitated a large workforce. Portugal turned to enslaving African individuals to address this labor demand to increase productivity and make higher profits

Political reasons:

- The transatlantic slave trade was closely connected to European countries' colonial control in the Americas

Enslaved African people contributed to increased production, which strengthened Portugal's economy and its position in global trade.

Demographic reasons:

-Indigenous communities often resisted or died from new European disease after European colonization of brazil, leading to significant population decilines. Thus, Portuguese colonists turned to forced migration and labor of African people.
