Egyptian Present-Day Ideas

Egypt, the world's oldest civilization and site of the pyramids of Giza, has gone through many upheavals through the ages. Today, Egypt is an exotic and historical travel destination for many tourists. In early 2011, Egypt was in the news as it endured economic and political instability. It is a country in transition, and Egyptian present-day ideas are still evolving.
  1. Egyptian Children Today

    • Egyptian youth enjoy many activities, including playing soccer.

Children in modern day Egypt have many similarities to American children. They must attend school, where they wear uniforms. Egyptian children learn under the British school system. They must stay in the same classroom the entire school day, while their teachers rotate through classes. Children are expected to observe their families' rules, participate in religious ceremonies and dress modestly when they are in public .They are sometimes allowed to watch television, participate in sports and enjoy music. In many families, a trip outside Egypt is planned annually.

    Society Today

    • Arabic is still the main language used in Egypt today, both for Muslims and Christians, however, the phraseology is more flexible and simple than classical Arabic. The majority of Egyptians practice the Islam religion, which affects their personal, political, legal and economic lives. The family includes not only the immediate, but extended family members. Honor, honesty and respect are very important facets of Egyptian relationships.

    Politics

    • The Egyptian economy has suffered in recent years, and is now mostly dependent on tourism. There is a transition towards a more democratic society, which is evolving slowing. There are occasional political revolutionary uprisings. There is also a move to clean up the cities and promote Egyptian pride. Police are often required to keep the peace as opposing factions struggle for control. There is hope that sustainable economic and political structures will be put into place soon.

    Sports

    • Ancient Egyptians were very involved in sports activities. In modern times, beach handball and football has become the most beloved sports in Egypt. Some Egyptians have even participated in these sports during Olympic events, gaining them international recognition. Other sports they participate in include martial arts, golf, soccer, badminton and motor sports. They also enjoy water sports, including parasailing, deep-sea diving and snorkeling.
