Did Switzerland ever have African colonies?
Yes, Switzerland had a very brief colonial period in Africa. In 1884, the Swiss African Commercial Society acquired a small settlement on the coast of modern-day Namibia, which was then known as German South-West Africa. The settlement, which was named Lüderitz, was sold to the German government in 1885. This marked the end of Switzerland's African colonial ambitions.
Switzerland was also involved in the Berlin Conference of 1884-85, which divided Africa among the European powers. However, Switzerland did not acquire any African colonies at the conference.
