Chase Field is home to the Arizona Diamondbacks, a major league baseball team. The stadium cost $354 million to build, and the red brick and exposed green structural steel in its exterior were heavily influenced by warehouses in the downtown warehouse district.
At the Phoenix Zoo, children can see giraffes, monkeys, a donkey, a lion, a porcupine, a vulture and a stingray. They can interact directly with animals on camel rides and giraffe encounters, and visit a monkey house and petting zoo.
The Heard Museum was started in 1929 by Dwight and Marie Heard. The museum is dedicated to the preservation of native art and culture, and it features outdoor galleries, hands-on activities, such as basket weaving, and exhibits of items such as native artifacts, paintings and jewelry.
The Children's Museum of Phoenix is a newer museum, as it was founded in 1998, and it is housed in the historic Monroe School Building. The museum features hands-on exhibits, such as Pit Stop, where kids get to drive small racecars around a track; the Grand Ballroom, where they learn about chain reactions through the movements of plastic balls on ramps; and the Art Studio, where they create artwork such as sculpted characters and props.
The Enchanted Island Amusement Park, located in Encanto Park, features a 50-year-old carousel, pedal boats that go across fish-filled lagoons, a parachute tower ride and arcade games.
