How many main lakes are in Africa?

Africa has more than 1,000 lakes, and the main ones (by area) are:

- Lake Victoria: 68,800 km².

- Lake Tanganyika: 32,900 km².

- Lake Malawi: 29,600 km².

- Lake Turkana: 6,405 km².

- Lake Chad: 2,500 km² (it varies greatly with the seasons and droughts can cause it to disappear).
