How to Have an Adventurous Safari in Tanzania

Tanzania is in East Africa, just south of Kenya. Its capital is Dar es Salaam, and it is home to exotic Zanzibar, comprised of two islands on the Pacific Ocean, and the 19,330-foot (5892 meters) Mount Kilimanjaro. It is also a safari destination where you can see the great migration herds, such as wildebeests, in the savanna grasslands and the Serengeti. Ngorongoro Crater, an extinct volcano, is home to wildlife riches. There are numerous other game reserves and parks in Tanzania, and you can have your pick of which to visit; one is more beautiful than the other.

Wildebeest migrations of 1 million take place in Tanzanian national parks.

Determine which parks you would like to visit. The Serengeti has the largest concentration of wildlife in the world and is especially known for its spectacular migrations. Every year, a million wildebeest and zebra thunder through the park. At the base of the Great Rift Valley is Lake Manyara, known for its bird life, but also you can see buffalo, elephant, giraffe, impala, hippos and more.

The Udzungwa Mountains is the last established park as of 2010 in Tanzania. It has the largest range of altitude of all East African forests and has one of the highest diversification of species in the world.

Other game parks worth visiting are Tarangire National Park, Arusha National Park, Ruaha, with deep pools, gorges and rapids; Mikumi, a small park closest to the capital; Rubondo Island, with deserted beaches and the only place in Tanzania to see the sitatunga, an aquatic antelope.

Saadani National Park combines bush, beach and river and is the only Tanzanian Park actually situated on the beach. Katavi National Park is remote and not visited by many tourists and is the third largest park in Tanzania.

Ngorongoro Crater is in high altitude, malaria-free, and the crater extends through the Crater Highlands, where tribespeople continue their traditional lifestyle in the natural environment. It is a beautiful reserve with craters and lakes. Outfitting company Tanzania Odyssey states the crater is said to have the most densely concentrated wildlife in Africa.

You will see hippos, lions, elephants, giraffes, antelopes, monkeys of various types, exotic birds and much more.

Buy a safari package, or book your own hotels. Most hotels will give you the necessary information on scheduling safaris. It isn't necessary to buy a planned itinerary package, but some find it less difficult to manage and appreciate the guided security in traveling to a foreign country. Either way, you will enjoy seeing the spectacular natural creations in Tanzania.
