The River Nile is located in northeastern Africa. It is the longest river in the world, flowing over 6,600 kilometers (4,100 miles) from its source in Burundi to the Mediterranean Sea. The Nile River Basin covers an area of over 3 million square kilometers (1.2 million square miles) and includes parts of eleven countries: Egypt, Sudan, Ethiopia, Uganda, Kenya, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Rwanda, Burundi, Eritrea, South Sudan, and Tanzania.

The Nile River is divided into two main branches: the White Nile and the Blue Nile. The White Nile begins in the Great Lakes region of Central Africa and flows through Uganda, Sudan, and Egypt. The Blue Nile originates in the Ethiopian Highlands and flows through Ethiopia and Sudan. The two branches meet in Khartoum, the capital of Sudan, and continue as the main Nile River through Egypt and into the Mediterranean Sea.
