The Ganges River: Known as the Padma in Bangladesh

In Bangladesh, the Ganges River is called the Padma River. After entering Bangladesh, the Ganges merges with the Jamuna (the main channel of the Brahmaputra) and later the Meghna, forming the vast Padma-Meghna delta that empties into the Bay of Bengal. The river is sacred in Hinduism, supports millions of livelihoods, and faces severe pollution challenges from industrial waste, sewage, and agricultural runoff.
