When Did the Andaman and Nicobar Islands Join India?

The Andaman and Nicobar Islands officially became part of India in 1950, when the country adopted its constitution and became a republic. They were previously a British colony and were transferred to the Indian Union following the 1947 Indian Independence Act.

Today, the 572-island chain is a union territory strategically located in the Bay of Bengal.
