Tajikistan is a landlocked, mountainous country in Central Asia.

• Borders: Afghanistan (south, 1,357 km), China (east, 477 km), Kyrgyzstan (north, 984 km), Uzbekistan (west, 1,312 km).
• Area: 143,100 km² (55,250 sq mi) — slightly smaller than Wisconsin.
• Topography: 93% mountain; Pamir ("Roof of the World") in east, Alay Range south, Tian Shan north. Highest: Ismoil Somoni Peak (7,495 m / 24,590 ft).
• Capital: Dushanbe (pop. ~850k), western foothills; political, economic, cultural center.
• Population: ~10 million (2023); majority Tajik (Persian-speaking), Sunni Muslim.

Economy relies on remittances, aluminum, cotton, hydropower potential.
