John Hay's Open Door Policy: Preserving China's Integrity & U.S. Access

In 1899–1900, U.S. Secretary of State John Hay issued the Open Door Notes, advocating that all nations enjoy equal trading rights in China and that China's territorial and administrative integrity be respected. The policy aimed to prevent any single power from dominating China's sphere of influence, thereby protecting American commercial interests without seeking exclusive control.
