Assam is one of the major oil-producing states in India. The oil fields in Assam are primarily located in the Upper Assam Basin, which is a sedimentary basin covering an area of approximately 12,500 square kilometers. The basin is bounded by the Himalayan foothills in the north and the Naga Hills in the south, and extends from the Dhansiri River in the east to the Brahmaputra River in the west.

Some of the major oil fields in Assam include:

* Digboi Oil Field: Located in the Tinsukia district of Assam, Digboi is the oldest oil field in India and one of the oldest operating oil fields in the world. It was discovered in 1889 and has been in continuous operation since then. The Digboi oil field produces crude oil, natural gas, and condensates.

* Naharkatiya Oil Field: Located in the Dibrugarh district of Assam, Naharkatiya is another major oil field in the state. It was discovered in 1953 and produces crude oil, natural gas, and condensates.

* Moran Oil Field: Situated in the Moran district of Assam, Moran is a prolific oil field discovered in 1956. It produces crude oil, natural gas, and condensates.

* Sivasagar Oil Field: Located in the Sivasagar district of Assam, Sivasagar is an important oil field that was discovered in 1962. It produces crude oil, natural gas, and condensates.

These oil fields are operated by various companies, including Oil India Limited (OIL), the Assam Oil Company (AOC), and private operators. The oil produced in Assam is transported through pipelines to refineries located in Guwahati and Bongaigaon, where it is processed to produce various petroleum products such as gasoline, diesel, and kerosene.
