  1. Know Your Destination

      Learn the official language of Cambodia. The official language is Khmer, although several languages are spoken here.

      Convert your U.S. dollars to Cambodian Riel (see Resources, below).

      Fly into one of two international airports near the city. You can choose to land at the Phnom Phen International Airport or the Siem Reap International Airport. Most tourists seem to pick Siem Reap over Phnom Phen.

      Find local transportation to your hotel and to local attractions. The safest way to get to your hotel from the airport is to take a taxi. Once you are inside the city, you can walk to most of the sights in Angkor Wat including the temples. If you get tired of walking, you can hire a tuk-tuk driver for the day to take you to the locations that you are interested in.

      Celebrate in Angkor Wat, Cambodia! If you enjoy festivals then you will want to book your accommodations in the fall. During this time of the year, several festivals take place in Angkor Wat, including the King Sihanouk's Birthday Celebration, Halloween and the Water Festival held in either October or November.

      Save money by staying at an Angkor Wat guest house. Guest houses are a great alternative to hotel accommodations. They are basically bed-and-breakfast establishments that offer a safe and clean environment while you're visiting this amazing city. Their prices are usually very inexpensive.

      Be close to tourist attractions. In addition to temples in Angkor Wat, there are also several great tourist attractions to visit including the Angkor Zoo, the War Museum, the Land Mine Museum and the Old Market. If you are interested in walking to any of these sights, then you may want to find accommodations that are close to these attractions.
