Winter Tourism in India

Winter is a great time to tour India. From trekking through snow in the Himalayas, skiing or catching a glimpse of a snow leopard, India is full of winter adventures for all ages.
  1. Skiing

    • The Dayara Bugyal, at an elevation of 3,048 meters with 28 sq. km. of ski slopes, is a panoramic site for anyone looking to ski the Himalayas. Vehicles can drive to the village of Barsu where there is an 8-km trek to reach Dayara. Dayara ski slopes are appropriate for beginners to professionals, and there is even lakeside camping.

    Snow Trek Tours

    • Snow trek tours are a great way to experience India in winter with a professional guide. Treks can be as short as six days or as long as 18. Most of these tours are designed for groups of up to 10 people and can be quite rigorous as they are in true expedition-style of mountaineering in bitter cold temperatures that reach sub-zero.

    Wildlife

    • Dachigam National Park is home to the snow leopard, the Himalayan black bear and exotic birds. Split into two regions, upper and lower, the lower region is best for winter tourism due to the upper region's harsh winter conditions. Its name is derived from the 10 villages it used to home meaning literally "ten villages," and is now home to some rare species including the endangered Kashmir Stag.
