Virtually every travel agency offers a "Best of Israel" tour that includes sightseeing at some of the most important places in Israel such as Jaffa, Masada, Mount Scopus, the Yad Vashem Holocaust memorial and the Western Wall. These tours normally will span multiple cities, all of which will include Tel Aviv and Jerusalem. The tours allow for a full view of the modern Jewish nation of Israel, while also seeing the many important sites to Jewish history and religious tradition.
Some travel companies offer Jewish tours specifically aimed at the niche of bar or bat mitzvahs. These trips include touring Israel and seeing many of the holy and revered sites, while also having a local Israeli rabbi help make all the preparations needed for the big day of the bar/bat mitzvah. Sights may include the Golan Heights, Western Wall, Western Wall tunnels, and many natural sites such as a national park or even camel rides in the desert to get a sense of the history of the Jewish people prior to the big day.
Assisted self-guided tours remain a popular option with many visitors. A self guided tour is often set up in conjunction with a travel agent or agency that can offer advice, contacts and help plan a customized tour based on their knowledge of Israel and the individual person's specific interests and desires for his trip. Self-guided tours may not be the best option for first-time international travelers, but they offer a combination of freedom and connection that many strictly rigid travel guided routes cannot provide.
