Does Australia own some of antarctica?

Australia does not claim ownership over any part of Antarctica. However, Australia is one of the seven claimant states to territory in Antarctica. These claims are based on historical exploration, scientific research, and other criteria, and are not universally recognized. Australia's claim is known as the Australian Antarctic Territory (AAT) and covers an area of about 5.9 million square kilometers. The AAT includes the mainland of Antarctica between 160°E and 45°E, as well as several nearby islands. Australia has maintained a permanent research station in Antarctica since 1954 and has been involved in scientific research and exploration on the continent for over a century.
