How did Melbourne get its name?

The city of Melbourne, Australia, got its name from the British Prime Minister during Queen Victoria's reign, Lord William Lamb, 2nd Viscount Melbourne. On 19 March 1837, he approved a dispatch requesting the appointment of a Superintendent for the Port Phillip district, and also approved the name "Melbourne".
