Can you rip an Australian bill?

It is illegal to rip any currency that bears an Australian monarch's signature, including polymer banknotes. These notes can, however, be damaged if ripped or torn accidentally. If damage occurs that affects usability the bill can be redeemed, if a certain percentage can be produced, at most major banking institutions.
