Where is Kangaroo Island located?

Kangaroo Island is located off the coast of South Australia, approximately 112 kilometers (70 miles) southwest of Adelaide. It is the largest island of the state and the third largest in Australia. Kangaroo Island is separated from the mainland by the Backstairs Passage, which is a strait that ranges from 13 to 25 kilometers (8 to 16 miles) in width. The island is about 145 kilometers (90 miles) long and 55 kilometers (34 miles) wide, with an area of approximately 4,405 square kilometers (1,700 square miles).
