An example of a new Australian law?

The Australian Government has recently introduced several new laws, here are a few examples:

Anti-Discrimination and Human Rights Legislation Amendment (Respect at Work) Act 2022:

This law, passed in September 2022, aims to prevent and address sexual harassment in workplaces by introducing proactive duties on employers to take reasonable measures to eliminate sexual harassment and provide a safe and respectful workplace. It also expanded the Australian Human Rights Commission's powers to investigate systemic discrimination and sexual harassment.

Online Safety Act 2021:

The Online Safety Act was passed in 2021 and came into effect gradually from late 2021 to mid-2022. It introduced measures to address online harms, including cyberbullying, image-based abuse, and harmful online content. The law created a framework for social media platforms and other online services to respond to and remove harmful content, and established a new eSafety Commissioner to enforce and administer the act.

Modern Slavery Act 2018:

Passed in 2018, the Modern Slavery Act aims to combat modern slavery and human trafficking in Australia and its global supply chains. It requires certain large businesses to report annually on their efforts to address modern slavery risks in their operations and supply chains. The act promotes corporate transparency, accountability, and encourages ethical business practices.

News Media and Digital Platforms Mandatory Bargaining Code 2021:

Enacted in 2021, this code addresses bargaining imbalances between news media businesses and large digital platforms such as Google and Facebook. It aims to ensure fair remuneration for Australian news content used by these platforms and supports the financial sustainability of Australian journalism.

These are a few examples of new laws introduced in Australia in recent years, each addressing different areas and issues.
