Why is Nova Scotia called the bluenoser?

Nova Scotians are referred to as Bluenosers because of an incident that occurred in 1813, when a privateer named schooner Bluenose sank the USS Boxer. The Americans who had been looking for a battle with the Boxer were humiliated by the quick outcome of the fight. Because of this, they began calling Nova Scotians Bluenosers, which was originally meant as an insult but has since been adopted as a nickname.
