How did Saskatchewan gets its name?

Saskatchewan's name comes from the Cree words kisiskāciwani-sīpiy meaning “the river that flows swiftly.” The name was originally used to refer to the part of the North Saskatchewan River that flows through Saskatchewan, and was later extended to the whole province.
